WaterJet Cutting
IGI's WaterJet cutting comes with two cutting capabilities: Standard and Abrasive.
The process:
Streams of pressurized water, up to 50,000 PSI, produce a water jet that travels over 2.5 times the speed of sound. Released through a precision orifice as small as 0.003 inches in diameter, the jet forms a stream which quickly and precisely cuts through a wide range of materials -- from the softest elastomers to rigid plastics and hard metals. Omni-directional shape cutting capabilities allow for the cutting of complex shapes that are not possible with conventional tools.
The advantages of WaterJet Cutting are numerous. Among them are:
- Fast Quick turnaround on prototypes and production runs.
- Production prototypes which eliminate costly and time-consuming tooling.
- No need for secondary finishing.
- Efficient multiple head configuration plus a large work envelope for large runs.
- Cutting of multiple thin sheets, improving material utilization and part yield.
- Versatile precision cutting of a wide variety of metallic and non-metallic materials, both exotic and standard.
- Custom shapes with a whole new level of accuracy and reliability.
- Precise cutting with high degree of accuracies (up to +/-.005) through the use of CNC robotics.
- Suited to a wide range of materials.
- Minimal material waste, utilizing part nesting to reduce overall cost.
- Complex shapes.
- Burr-free Cut.
- No material distortion or degradation (burning, crushing, chipping and fracturing) that occur with other cutting methods, such as laser or die-cutting.
- Superior edge quality.
- Thicknesses up to 6" depending on material.
- No tooling costs or post-machining work - part edges are smooth and finished.
- Quick standard turnarounds of 48 hours or less.
